Computational Science is a crucial area to our nation as science, engineering, computation, mathematics, and collaboration become a key combination to address our top research problems. With the exaflop machine computing on the horizon and current supercomputing capabilities, simulations can now be performed on what were previously unthinkable scales. Such resources are the core that we build out from, and must be as powerful as our ingenuity can make them. This fact pushes us outside our comfort zone and forces us to think in the new ways. The program will produce graduates skilled in techniques such as mathematical modeling, algorithmic design, computer simulation, scientific visualization, statistical processing of large data sets, and high-performance computing on parallel and distributed systems.

The University of Texas at El Paso offers studies leading to degrees of a Doctor of Philosophy and Master of Science in Computational Science operating under the direction of the College of Science. Computational Science is an interdisciplinary program, crossing departmental and college boundaries, that yields an integrated knowledge-base for the effective solution of complex problems where computer usage plays a fundamental role.

It is an exhilarating time at UTEP as we prepare to become one of the top programs in creating this new generation of computational scientists that are in demand nationally and internationally.
