Juan Hermosillo

|
From a very young age, Juan Hermosillo has shown an interest in the areas of math and science. His childlike curiosity about the world around him has never diminished. He attended Silva Health Magnet High School in order to take advantage of the science packed curriculum the school had to offer. He then attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he studied Chemical Engineering. During these years at MIT, while reading books on cosmology and physics such as The Elegant Universe and Cosmos, he developed a deeper appreciation for physics and the pursuit to better understand the world we live in. Because of this, he decided to go back to school and pursue a degree in physics. He obtained his master's degree in physics in December 2006 and decided to continue his research by becoming a doctoral student in the Materials Science program. He is currently conducting research on solid acids that may be used as electrolytes in fuel cells. Juan is a returning fellow to the program. He describes his time as a GK-12 fellow as one of the most rewarding and educational experiences he's ever had and is looking forward to contributing to the program a second year.
