Jerry Johnson, Professor of Biological Sciences, has been a faculty member at The University of Texas at El Paso since 2000. Before that, he was a faculty member at El Paso Community College for 14 years, where he received valuable experience teaching undergraduates in many courses relating to biology and ecology. He has participated on several NSF and NIH grants directed toward education at both K-12 and college levels. His education and research expertise is especially aimed at activities associated with field biology in the Chihuahuan Desert and has trained several teachers in projects related to how field-based activities can be incorporated into the K-12 curriculum. As Director of UTEP's 39,000 acre Indio Mountains Research Station, Dr. Johnson has assisted the GK-12 program with access and facilities support for teacher and graduate fellows participating in exercises related to Chihuahuan Desert curriculum design and implementation.
