(1988) and Ph.D. (1991) in Geophysics from Stanford University. Prior to joining the UTEP, Dr. Miller worked for Amoco (now BP) in New Orleans in oil exploration and development. Dr. Miller has published widely and received extensive funding for her geophysical research into the origin, structure, and evolution of the Earth’s continents. She was a 2001 recipient of the Chancellor’s Award for Teaching Excellence from the University of Texas System. Dr. Miller served the Department of Geological Sciences as chair for six years and is now associate dean in the College of Science. In addition to directing MaST Academy, Dr. Miller leads the College of Science efforts to support institutional grants (MSP, TNE, STEP-UP, TSTEM) related to math and science education. She has also been a successful fundraiser in this arena in her own right, having garnered $3 million in National Science Foundation awards for recruitment of students to science and for support of science teachers, within the last two years.
